Athletics, High-jump

Tension was in the air  as the last, and hardest sport neared.  We had just finished 100m sprints and were making our way over to High-jump.  I watched as the last of the year 5 boys made their way over the bar, which was around the height of 1.8m.  Arthur made it over smoothly, though the next made their way into the bar, knocking it down.

Matua Nick explained the rules, which was mostly about cones, and then started the rights, my sides line.  I Watched as people got over, and as people knocked it down.  sooner than I thought, it was Alivia's turn to jump, she ran, she sprant, she... knocked down the bar. Then it was my turn, I jogged, it turned into a run, then a light sprint.  My right leg flew up, and I suddenly felt confident.  I made my way smoothly over the top of the bar and landed perfectly on the big, fat, blue mat.  I ran back, exited.  Than one after one all the other girls failed, except for Charlotte M, my rival.

Charlotte was on her orange cone, with 2 more lives, while I was on my green, full with 3 lives, like at the beginning.  the bar went from 1.5m to 1.10m.  I ran, I sprinted, I skimmed the bar.  It wobbled violently, as I watched, my nerves on end.  It didn't fall off!!  I ran back to the green cone.  None of my lives had left me.  Charlotte ran, and... knocked the bar.  She was on the cone with holes in it now. she took her jump she made it over!  It was end on end now, 1 life V.S. 3.

The bar was moved up to 1.15m.  I ran, I sprinted... I once again skimmed the bar.  It wobbled.  I hoped with my whole heart it wouldn't fall off, my life depended on it.   It stayed standing!  Now Charlotte ran, she... knocked the bar.  that was it.  Matua Nick told me and Charlotte to sit next to Lola And Alivia.  We watched as the boys all fell down rankings until the winner was unveiled.  Matua Nick then announced the placings!  " For Year 6 girls, First, Charlotte A,..."
My heart leapt, I had won!!  All the rest was drowned out by the cheering that was coming from within my body.
